Zebra Storm

On our first day out in Kruger National Park it was overcast and looked like we might be treated to a thunderstorm in the late afternoon. Driving along a dirt road the bush cleared and we came across this zebra standing on its own a little isolated from its herd. As we pulled up perpendicular to the stripy beast the heavens and earth aligned! Well, just the dark cloud background adding to striking contrast of an almost totally black and white animal. I processed this image in colour because you get a better feel for the conditions and the striking colour of the storm clouds. The other shot I took...

Derwent Water Ferry

After shooting some shots of Mr Grump-Grump Goose I awaited the arrival of the first ferry's to the Derwent Water Ferry dock. Seeing the photo opportunity before him Mr Grump-Grump Goose created my foreground interest while the landscape behind him unfolded. The cost of getting this shot...a slight chill from the winter morning air and a couple hours lost sleep in the morning. Get out and shoot! :-)

Wild Wednesday: Snooze Time for White Rhinos

  Just chilling in the shade! Caroline and I had been staying at a totally new resort in KwaZulu-Natal where the game was still quite skittish when we took a day out to visit the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Nature Reserve. It stood in stark contrast to our experience at Makhasa where we were staying where we really had to work to find the game in the bush. A day here was just so easy. Sometimes it almost felt like the game was posing for us. I love this shot because it captures the atmosphere and feel of game viewing in South Africa.

Happy 7th of July! {OR} I was busy on the 4th!

So I had this shot lined up in my mind for the 4th but as you might have gathered from the alternative title I had a couple of other more pressing things happening. Anyway...my July 4th is happening on the 7th! This shot was taken from a parking area just off the road between Mooresville and Blowing Rock in NC. My wife and I took a day out from raising financial support for our missionary activities in Edinburgh
